Shan has acted for a wide range of clients on IP and commercial matters, from start-ups to large corporations across key industries and innovations, including media and entertainment, computer software, virtual reality, artificial intelligence (AI), financial technology (FinTech), the Internet of things (IoT), cannabis, food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and medical software.
In his IP litigation practice, Shan has assisted in acting for plaintiffs and defendants in cases involving trademarks, copyright and confidential information in provincial and federal courts.
Prior to joining Shift Law, Shan summered and articled at the Toronto office of a large global law firm in the intellectual property, business and commercial litigation practice groups. Shan earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and his Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto where he was awarded the Governor General's Academic Medal and the John Black Aird Scholarship for the highest academic standing among all graduating students across all campuses and programs.
Shan is fluent in English and French with proficiency and continuing development in Spanish, Hindi, Italian, and Urdu. He is actively involved in federal and provincial politics, public speaking, mentorship, and LGBTQ+ issues and can often be found outdoors kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, or competing in volleyball tournaments.
